FRESNO, CA – On Tuesday, March 6, 2024, a heartwarming event took place for Fresno’s students as The Troy Center visited Hamilton K-8 for a highly anticipated free backpack giveaway. With the new school year just around the corner, the event saw a cafeteria bursting with excited children, eager to receive their new backpacks. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter and joy, as Principal Jahmaal Sawyer and his dedicated staff worked alongside The Troy Center team to ensure a seamless and memorable experience.
Principal Sawyer and his staff played a pivotal role in the event, personally greeting students and parents, and helping distribute the backpacks. Their enthusiasm and hands-on approach underscored their dedication to the students’ well-being and education. Alongside them, The Troy Center staff worked tirelessly, creating an organized and welcoming environment for everyone in attendance.
Backpacks filled the cafeteria, creating a colorful and inviting scene. Nicholas Butler, founder of The Troy Center, addressed the crowd with an engaging and heartfelt speech, highlighting the importance of community support and education. His words resonated deeply with both students and parents, setting the tone for an afternoon filled with excitement and gratitude.
The highlight of the event was a special appearance by Quincy Poindexter, who engaged with the students, answering their questions and sharing inspiring stories from his career. Quincy’s commitment to the community is unwavering, and his frequent appearances and involvement in local events demonstrate his dedication. His collaboration with Nicholas Butler has significantly impacted the community, spreading positivity and support.
Adding to the thrill of the day, two lucky students walked away with free bikes, having discovered hidden tickets in their new backpacks. The surprise element added an extra layer of excitement and joy, leaving the students beaming with happiness.
Upcoming Events on Friday and Saturday
The generosity doesn’t stop with Hamilton K-8. On Friday, there will be free haircuts for students at the City Center from 9am to 11am and again from 1pm to 3:30pm. This initiative ensures students are not only equipped with new backpacks but also feel confident and ready for the upcoming school year.
The week will culminate in a much-anticipated grand finale on Saturday at Clovis North High School. From 12pm to 4pm, there will be even more giveaways, making it a day to remember for all attendees. The grand finale Championship game will be at 2pm, followed by Fresno’s Pro-Am basketball game featuring former and active NBA stars at 4pm. This exciting and unforgettable event will mark the perfect end to the season.
