October: Cultural Unity Fest 2024
On a warm and sunny October day, Campus Pointe at Fresno State was transformed into a lively hub of creativity for the 4th Annual Cultural Unity Fest. This extraordinary celebration was a vibrant tapestry of traditions, music, and dance that honored the diversity of Fresno’s community. Attendees strolled through a bustling array of vendor booths showcasing handmade crafts and artistic creations, connecting with local artisans and their stories.
“Creating things made me happy,” shared Andrea Fulton, a stylist and fashion show producer. “Art helped me through trauma and empowered me to move forward. It’s a gift I’ve used not just for myself but also to uplift my clients.”
Her words echoed the festival’s spirit—art as a bridge to healing and connection.
November: State of the Arts Horizon Business Award
The November celebration at the Art Groove Gallery was nothing short of magical. Melanie Glass and her team celebrated five years of B Awesum’s journey, marked by the receipt of the FAC State of the Arts Horizon Business Award 2024. The evening shimmered with performances by Searcha, Randy Freeman, Lady K, Baby Bee, McCoy Hip-Hop, and DJ Shaun Stacks.
Among the artists featured was Sharon Dehmlow, a new and promising artist. “Art can be used as a tool to empower your own self,” Dehmlow reflected. “Expressing any emotion is very healthy for everyone.”
These words resonated deeply as guests mingled among the works of 31 talented local artists. The evening wasn’t just a celebration of milestones but a testament to art’s ability to inspire resilience and growth.
December: Joyful Christmas Voices
In December, the gallery’s final event of the year, “Joyful Christmas Voices,” was a heartwarming culmination of creativity and community. Featuring DJ Shaun Stacks and gospel producer Dr. Asia Smith with her artists, the evening was a soulful mix of music, art, and storytelling. Local artists once again took center stage, their works creating a visual symphony that complemented the musical performances.
“Art is about love and empowerment,” Dr. Smith shared with the audience.
The night ended with heartfelt gratitude for everyone who made these events possible.
